Lone Peak of Big Sky, MT

Lone Peak Glow

On a very cold morning I wanted to capture Lone peak as the sun was rising. I arrived with my family only minutes before the sun lit up the peak with a beautiful golden hue. The sight is one I will never forget, the slight touch of frost in the foreground completed this shot and truly expressed how I felt at the time. I was very excited to witness such a scene, but at the same time, I was just about frozen with the 14 degree temperature and the lack of appropriate gloves and hat. Sometime as a wilderness photographer we wonder if all of the torture we put ourselves through is worth the end result. I always think about this when I'm chilled to the bone, hungry, tired and in a compromising situation to get the shot, but I know in my heart it will be worth it in the end. Every bit of suffering and hard work always pays off eventually, even if you think it is insane to be where you are at that moment. Keep pushing forward, but make sure to be sensible, it is a very unpredictable world out there.

Technical details: Canon 7D, Canon 10-22mm lens (@18mm), ISO 100, F/16, Three shot HDR, middle exposure at 1/4th.
